Velle Kolde, Director, Online Executive MBA Program: Washington State University has been delivering online degree programs for over 20 years. And during those 20 years, we learned a lot about delivering online education, and our students really benefit from that.
Fred Peterson, Professor, Leadership & Professional Studies Program: Being a successful business leader in particular involves more than simple technical expertise.
Heaven knows come to this program to get technical expertise, you're going to get it. These are amongst the best experts in the world. But you also learn a lot about thinking and a lot about interacting with different people in different business blocks of life.
Cheryl Oliver, Assistant Dean of Online and Graduate Programs: It's really important to think about what it could mean to you to travel abroad. We do provide that opportunity. It is life-changing. I've seen it in undergraduate students. I've seen it in graduate students. And it's not a vacation. It's not a work trip. It's a real immersion into cultural and business practices in another environment.
Velle Kolde, Director, Online Executive MBA Program: From the business perspective, we'll go meet with Chinese businesses, with multinational businesses operating in China. We'll talk directly with the executives about the challenges and opportunities that they see there.
Cheryl Oliver, Assistant Dean of Online and Graduate Programs: We have a lot of students that have graduated from our MBA programs over the years that have worked in the non-profit sectors that have reinvented the way that we think about doing business on a number of different scales. And so when someone becomes a Cougar, they're introduced to that network.
Fred Peterson, Professor, Leadership & Professional Studies Program: They're going to get a richer experience because they're going to get my experience, and they're going to get their other classroom person's experience tied in with the rich experiences of students who are in the class.
Velle Kolde, Director, Online Executive MBA Program: In terms of convenience, our program is specifically designed for the working professional, for people that have a job, a family, they're under quite a bit of time pressure. We have incorporated that into our online format and in our synchronous communication to make it a flexible program that meets the needs of the working professional.
Cheryl Oliver, Assistant Dean of Online and Graduate Programs: Innovation is an important value in the Carson College of Business. Our students are able to go through a Capstone program where they write a business plan around a spin-off or spinout from their own company, or follow that passion they've always wanted to pursue.
Velle Kolde, Director, Online Executive MBA Program: We focus on the relevance of what's happening in the economic environment today. We talk about the most advanced theories and how they'll apply them in a practical manner.
Fred Peterson, Professor, Leadership & Professional Studies Program: As I say, most come in as leaders. My sense is that they leave with the potential to be much better leaders and some of them will, of course, be great leaders.
